Two-episodes have been really exciting

Skeleton Crew positive reviews

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew - First reviews are really positive

I will start this edition with my own review of first 2 episodes of Skeleton Crew, and will try not to spoil anything for those of you who didn’t watch it yet. I will just do a little spoiler-free recap of how I saw the episodes.

First episode:
I am happy they started with opening scene that really set the tone of what we can expect of this show. Starts with space pirates pillaging in space, and boy oh boy, who doesn’t love pirates?! That scene was short and served only as a “teaser”. Rest of the episode told the story about our protagonists who want to go to an adventure (like any good start of a story for a movie/show), and kids who wants to be a Jedi.
So far so good.

Second episode:
Now, here is where it really started to kick-off. Kids really did go on an adventure, met some space pirates, saw some cool stuff, there was a droid (duh), fight happened, ships were flying, maybe there was a Jedi somewhere in there… (Not gonna spoil it for you).
This episode really got me interested even more, and now I am fully invested in this story.

Conclusion:
I really like it. Seems to me like it is a combination of “Stranger Things” + “Pirates of the Caribean” meets “Star Wars”.
Characters were well presented, story was progressing in a good pace, and we saw many interesting species in space.
All that really got a “Star Wars” feeling to it. I just reeeeeally hope we will see a cameo of Hondo Ohnaka. Great, lovable pirate from Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels, who has so many funny quotes.

Episode 3 is scheduled for 10th December, and can’t wait to watch it.

Both episodes were rated 7.7 on IMDB (as of writing this newsletter), and score on Rotten Tomatoes is promising.

Dave Filoni on Ahsoka

Dave Filoni teases progress on Ahsoka S02

Initially expected to be a miniseries, ‘Ahsoka’ was later re-evaluated, with discussions about a second season depending on its success. Dave Filoni, already working on a film tying together ‘The Mandalorian’ and its spin-offs, shifted focus towards a potential second season of the show following the first season’s release in October 2023.

By January 2024, Lucasfilm confirmed that Filoni was actively developing the second season, coinciding with his new role as chief creative officer at Lucasfilm, overseeing future projects.

Not much is known about the second season of the show, but Filoni recently commented on the development of the show. Filoni shared that he is deeply involved in writing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 as its sole writer. While he enjoys the creative process, he acknowledged that developing and resolving the story arcs has been a challenging task.

“I’m so well into that as well. I’ve been writing it. I’m still the single writer on it. So I’m enjoying doing that, but it’s a challenge of course. Working some of these arcs through has been a challenge.” - Dave Filoni

One of the biggest challenges of the second season will certainly be the question of Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll. As a reminder, Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll never revealed his true plans in the final episode of the first season; instead, he can be seen gazing upon the statues of Mortis Gods on Peridea, an act seemingly foreshadowing what his plans might be. Filoni described Baylan Skoll as a man with dangerous ambition.

Stevenson passed away on May 21, 2023, just four days prior to his 59th birthday. The cause of his death remains undisclosed, but it’s noted that he was hospitalized during the filming of ‘Cassino in Ischia’ on the Italian island of Ischia.

So, what happens now to the character that was supposed to be a giant part of the franchise moving forward? Some past reports claimed that the character will appear in the second season as the role will be recast.

Speaking of rumors, it was recently reported that ‘Ahsoka’ season 2 will wrap up its story completely just in case it doesn’t get renewed for season 3. source

Ewan McGregor takes his first role in theaters after 17 years

Ewan McGregor has described live theatre as "good for the soul", as he announced he is to return to the London stage for the first time in 17 years.

The Scottish actor, who has starred in Trainspotting and Moulin Rouge, is set to star in My Master Builder in London's West End between April and July next year.

McGregor told BBC News: "This is the longest I haven’t been on stage, and in honesty, I’ve missed it."

Inspired by Henrik Ibsen's 1892 play The Master Builder, the new show is written by US playwright Lila Raicek and will be directed by Michael Grandage.

"The funny story is, I had literally just finished reading Ibsen’s The Master Builder for pleasure – an extraordinary read. Michael got in touch out of the blue and I mentioned how much I’d love to get back on stage. “
"And in a moment of pure coincidence, he told me he had a play inspired by The Master Builder sitting on his desk. I asked him to send it to me, and here we are. A moment of total serendipity."

He said Raicek had taken the script in a "fascinating" direction, describing the new play as a "very modern take on sexual politics in a way that resonates particularly for this moment we find ourselves in".

"It examines these issues in a very grown-up way, and ultimately, I felt like what a great play it would be to see, and therefore what a great play it would be to do."

Grandage and McGregor have previously collaborated on Othello and Guys and Dolls, both for the Donmar theatre, where Grandage was artistic director. McGregor described working on the two shows as "amazing experiences", adding he felt "incredibly safe" in the director's hands.

"I really like the work he gets out of me," McGregor said. "He has great creative intention and ideas before we start in the rehearsal room, but when we are actually rehearsing with him, there’s such a great sense of discovering it together."

His last stage appearance was more than a decade ago, when he appeared in The Real Thing on Broadway, opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal. source
