Star Wars Reads in October

It’s time to celebrate Star Wars Reads!

Star Wars Reads logo Launched in 2011, Star Wars Reads is a month-long celebration of reading for all ages. Created by Disney Publishing and Lucasfilm, Star Wars Reads honors the magic of reading through a commitment to inspiring the next generation of storytellers and innovators. In years past, Star Wars Reads activities have included book giveaways, printable activity kits, demonstrations by illustrators, and more.

Running from October 1st through October 31st in collaboration with First Book, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a world where every child has access to a quality education, this year’s Star Wars Reads activities also focus on supporting under-resourced communities with book donations, support from Disney VoluntEARS, classroom resources and activity kits, as well as engagement opportunities with Star Wars authors.

Disney Publishing will also donate about 60,000 books around the country, with community outreach events in Tampa, Fla. and New York City, N.Y. in collaboration with First Book, Blue Star Families and New York Edge. source

Ten years of Star Wars Rebels

Remembering the Star Wars Rebels

It’s been 10 years since Ezra Bridger, a young orphan on Lothal, first joined up with the Ghost crew and changed not only his life but also the future of the galaxy.

Following in the footsteps of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels debuted with a two-episode premiere stitched together into a one-hour movie event on the Disney Channel and Disney XD. Created by Clone Wars veteran Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Carrie Beck, “Spark of Rebellion” ignited a new era for a generation of fans who would soon discover the sequel trilogy on the big screen with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

Stars of the show were introduced:
Ezra Bridger, a pickpocket with a Han Solo-esque heart of gold;
Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi now in hiding (but not for long!);
Zeb Orrelios, a hulking Lasat with a killer Wookiee impression;
Sabine Wren, a colorful Mandalorian with an expertise in explosives;
Hera Syndulla, everyone’s space mom and the captain of the Ghost; and her loyal droid companion,
Chopper (he’s also a war criminal.)

In their first adventure as a team, the members of the Ghost crew deliver food to the starving people of Tarkintown, prove that they don’t abandon one of their own (even though Zeb really tries to leave Ezra in Imperial custody), and manage to save a small contingent of Wookiee captives. If seeing little Kitwarr in binders brought you to tears, you were in for an emotional four seasons.

The first season primarily followed the Ghost’s scrappy rebel cell, but they’d soon join up with Fulcrum agent Ahsoka Tano, and go on to help future leaders of the Rebel Alliance including a teenaged Princess Leia — born on Empire Day just like Ezra! — and Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila as she declared a guerilla war on the Empire.

As Kanan became a Jedi Master to Bridger, they would navigate their connection to the Force with help from the Bendu and take on those looking to hunt down the last remnants of the Jedi, the Inquisitorius, going toe-to-toe and saber-to-saber with the likes of the Grand Inquisitor, Maul (no longer Darth), and Vader (still very much so). Ultimately, it would be their entanglement with Thrawn that would become Ezra’s greatest battle, as each member of the crew had their own harrowing and sometimes heartbreaking arcs over the four seasons of Star Wars Rebels — and later in the Ahsoka series. But here is where it all began.

Ten years ago, a young man stood at the rusted rail of a watchtower on Lothal, in the shadow of an Imperial Star Destroyer. He was very much alone. Then he found his Ghost family. source

“Reign of the Empire”

Reign of the Empire coming soon

New York Comic Con is right around the corner, which means Lucasfilm Publishing is coming to drop some Star Wars reveals. Ahead of the convention on October 17-20, Random House Worlds has teased that something is coming from their upcoming Reign of the Empire trilogy next week.

The Mask of Fear, the trilogy’s first book, will be released on February 25, 2025. The novel sees the return of Alphabet Squadron writer Alexander Freed. Taking place in the first year of the Empire, it will be told through the eyes of characters like Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera and what they have to do to survive in a new galaxy. It remains to be seen what news may come at New York Comic Con, but as the High Republic loosens its stranglehold on publishing, it makes sense to begin the promotional campaign now.

Speaking of the High Republic, it should have a big presence during Lucasfilm’s two major panels based on the available information. Lucasfilm Publishing proper kicks it off on Friday with heavy hitters, including Charles Soule and The Glass Abyss‘ Steven Barnes.

Comics take center stage the next day with several High Republic writers and Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain.

Beyond publishing, Hasbro promises some Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals during their panel on Friday.

Among the things you can possibly expect is a cover reveal for Trials of the Jedi, the High Republic’s final book. Marvel’s flagship Star Wars series is also in need of a reboot. Dark Horse may have news of their elusive Hyperspace Stories graphic novel line after its delay into 2025. source
