RIP James Earl Jones

Goodbye Darth Vader

Hello there!

Good morning Star Wars lovers. Wookiee Weekly again with the new issue and more interesting Star Wars content for their fans.

RIP Darth Vader

RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024)

Rest in peace, legend!

The actor who gave Darth Vader his iconic voice has passed away.

In 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Jones spoke one of the most iconic lines in motion picture history: “No, I am your father.” The actor recalled that “when I first saw the dialogue that said, ‘Luke, I am your father,’ I said to myself, ‘He’s lying, I wonder how they’re gonna play that lie out.

That one simple line of dialogue helped define the narrative arc of the Star Wars saga for the next 25 years. As Jones himself would explain, “Darth Vader doesn't think he's evil. And then the suggestion that he has not always been evil, so the story becomes, “How does one become evil and how is one redeemed from it?"

While Jones has what many would agree is one of the most recognizable voices of all time and has helped to make Darth Vader a cinema legend, he was actually not Lucas’ first choice for the voice role. “The rumor is that he thought of Orson Welles,” recalled Jones. “And then probably thought that Orson might be too recognizable, so what he ends up picking is a voice that was born in Mississippi, raised in Michigan, and was a stutterer. And, that happened to be my voice.” source

We are saddened to see the icon go, but 93 years in this galaxy is very long time for the most of us. Rest in peace, legend!

Walk Of Fame

Ewan McGregor - Hollywood Walk of Fame

Hello there!

Hello there!

Ewan McGregor, who has played the legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for 25 years, was celebrated by friends and family at the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. McGregor’s star, number 2,789 in the category of Motion Pictures, is situated just a few feet away from the star honoring the late Carrie Fisher.

McGregor was 26 years old when he first played Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. A fan of Star Wars since childhood, McGregor recounts fond memories of watching the original trilogy of films with his brother. His enthusiasm for becoming part of the galaxy far, far away has never faded in the years since, and he most recently reprised the role the 2022 six-part series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hayden Christensen, his colleague, collaborator, and Anakin to his Obi-Wan, was also on hand during the ceremony to speak about his lifelong friend – whom he considers a brother.

Then it was time for Ewan’s acceptance speech: “I’m so moved that I’m close to my old friend Carrie Fisher on the pavement here. That means a great deal to me. I’m so blessed to be able to live a creative life. I get to create stories with all these amazingly creative people.

We all come together and we exercise our creativity as a group to make something that’s capable of changing the world. We make something that makes people feel, and makes people think, and therefore can make people change. I think that’s the most amazing privilege to do that.source

Star Wars: Eclipse

Star Wars Eclipse is currently in the works from Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games. The new action-adventure is set to take place in the High Republic Era Star Wars timeline, with a branching narrative and multiple characters that we'll follow. First announced back in 2021, it's been quite some time since we've had an update on the project.

Following its initial announcement, it was said to be in early development, but since then, we've haven't seen or heard all that much about Star Wars Eclipse. Last year, Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière spoke with us at Gamescom 2023, saying: Eclipse is "a different game than anything we've done before". And as one of the new games that's among a slate of upcoming Star Wars games headed our way in the future, it's an exciting time for fans of the beloved universe.

While described as in "early development" at the Game Awards, reports emerged towards the end of 2021 that suggested Star Wars Eclipse was apparently at least three to four years away from launch at the time of writing three years ago. Quantic Dream went on to respond to the reports to reaffirm that there have been no delays since no launch date has been confirmed. There’s little to go on beyond that at present, but, given Quantic Dream’s past projects, we expect Star Wars Eclipse to feature on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X at a minimum, with the developer promising a game that "can be experienced in many ways, and puts the destinies of multiple playable characters in your hands". source

With limited information, we can’t wait to see how this story develops and if this game will see the light in 2025 (hopefully).
