Mia Goth is headed to a galaxy far, far away. The “Pearl” actor has joined the cast of Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which also stars Ryan Gosling. Details of her role are currently being kept under wraps.

The film is eyeing a fall production start and Disney has set a theatrical release date of May 28, 2027. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially unveiled plans for “Starfighter” at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo this April.

The standalone, which focuses on new characters in the “Star Wars” universe, is set roughly five years after the events of “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,” which concluded the Skywalker saga and currently stands as the final feature chronologically on the “Star Wars” timeline.

Goth will next appear in Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” alongside Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, as well as Christopher Nolan’s “The Oddysey” with Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. Previous credits include “Emma,” “Infinity Pool” and Ti West’s film series of “X,” “Pearl” and “Maxxxine.”

“Star Wars: Starfighter” marks Levy’s directorial follow-up to Marvel Studios’ hit buddy comedy “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which raked in $1.3 billion at the global box office after releasing in July 2024 and stands as the highest-grossing R-rated feature of all-time. source

Morale at Respawn Entertainment is at “All-Time Low”

Respawn Entertainment, the EA Studio behind the popular Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor video games, has experienced its share of challenges in recent months. In addition to the cancellation of two games in development, which led to 100 layoffs, Cliffhanger Studios, another gaming studio under the EA umbrella, was shutdown completely. Insider Gaming Network reports that the recent events have impacted employee morale at Respawn as workers grapple with the gaming industry’s uncertain future.

Times have been tough for game developers in the first half of this year. Website gaminglayoffs.com reports that there have been over 2300 layoffs so far in 2025, and that number is constantly growing. Patrick Wren, a senior encounter designer at Respawn, took to Bluesky to sound off on his frustration with the current state of things at the company.

“Morale has been at an all-time low…I can say that much. I’m just sorry for everyone who just wants to make cool video games in this industry.”

As the gaming industry landscape continues to evolve this year, it will be interesting to see how the Star Wars games in development are impacted. EA recently announced that while they will focusing on fewer franchises in the coming years, Star Wars is still part of their roadmap. Currently Respawn is working on the highly anticipated third entry in the Jedi series rumored for a 2027 release, as well as the Clone Wars-era strategy game Star Wars Zero Company. source

Mark Hamill says he will not return to Star Wars as Luke Skywalker

Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) journey in the Star Wars galaxy is set to continue with the upcoming movie New Jedi Order, but fans shouldn’t expect to see her mentor Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) make an appearance. In an interview with ComicBook to promote his new movie The Life of Chuck (which opens in select theaters June 6th and nationwide June 13th), Hamill was asked if he would return as Luke’s Force ghost in New Jedi Order. Though the actor is forever grateful he played such a meaningful role in the Star Wars franchise, he believes it is time for Lucasfilm to move past the legacy characters and focus entirely on the younger generation.

I am so grateful to George for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,’” Hamill said. “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.

Hamill then made a joke about another reason why he wouldn’t return to Star Wars. “And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.source
